Frankenstein

Frankenstein
Frankenstein (1994)

IMDB rating: 6.00

Plot: Based on Mary Shelly’s novel, the hair-raising movie tells the sad story of Victor Frankenstein (Kenneth Brannagh), a promising young scientist. The doctor was so devastated by his mother’s death during childbirth that he became obsessed with the idea of bringing the deceased back to life, unaware of the consequences of his actions. The result of his experiment with the remains of the corpse and electricity was a simple, seemingly harmless creature (Robert De Niro) which, however, turned into a wrathful and vindictive monster after his ”father” abandoned him. Dr. Frankenstein wished he had never created him!

what do the punctuation and sentence structure used in chapter 5 mean?
chapter five starts with long sentences showing Frankenstein’s confusion, there are lots of commas, what does this show the reader? there is also short sentences shocking the audience. I need to expand this point.

Well as I see it if you are a first-time author and you have the famous Percy Bysshe Shelley peeking over your shoulder, you might want to show off with a few flourishes.

Rat Race

Rat Race
Rat Race (2001)

IMDB rating: 6.30

Plot: A group of billionaires led by a Las Vegas casino owner (John Cleese) search for things to bet on. They decide to pull a group of six strangers together to race from Vegas to Silver City, New Mexico to retrieve $2 million hidden in a locker. First one there gets all of the money. The first team are two addled brothers (Seth Green and Vince Vieluf, who talks indecipherably because of a newly pierced tongue). When they cannot catch a plane, they plot to destroy an airport control tower in a very funny sequence. Their antics carry them into a hot air balloon chase that catches a cow with a dangling rope and into a monster truck competition. The second team is an estranged mother (Whoopi Goldberg) reunited with her daughter (Lanai Chapman), who is struggling to start a business. They face an insane squirrel-selling woman (Kathy Bates) and steal a rocket car scheduled for a land speed record attempt. A hated NFL referee (Cuba Gooding, Jr.) is stranded in the desert by an irate cabbie (Paul Rodriguez) and hijacks a busload of Lucille Ball look-alikes on the way to a convention. The Jewish family man (Jon Lovitz) on a family vacation joins the race without telling his wife (Kathy Najimy) why they are rushing across the country. When his daughter insists on stopping at a Barbie museum, it is without realization that it is the Klaus Barbie Nazi Museum. The escape from that location involves the theft of Hitler’s personal touring car and culminates with Lovitz having his tongue burned and accidentally crashing into a WWII Veteran’s convention. A narcoleptic Italian (Rowan Atkinson in his best Mr. Bean-like manner) gets a ride with an ambulance driver (Wayne Knight), who is carting a human heart for a transplant. Through various ineptitude, the heart ends up flying out of the truck’s window and the two have to recover it from a playful dog. The final race member (Breckin Meyer) is a straight-laced future lawyer who at first declines to participate in the race, but re-thinks his position after he meets a smart, beautiful woman (Amy Smart) who is flying a helicopter to New Mexico. He quickly finds out that she is unbalanced after she flies over her boy friend’s house and starts an attack on the boy friend when she sees him in the pool with an ex-girl friend. An air pursuit results in the crash of the helicopter. Dave Thomas also appears as Cleese’s humorless attorney.

just a simple tax question?
For the last ten years it has been a rat race between my ex and i to file taxes for my daughter.
he always wins and i’m stuck filing a paper return, proving she lives me and i take care of her. yes he pays child support $79 a month. is there any way i can stop him from doing this

Maybe I’m not understanding completely, but can’t you just file before he does?

File first and let him worry about the paper return. The child support makes no difference as to who gets to claim the child. Normally it is the custodial parent that wins these issues. However he who files first gets the money, if only for a little while.

If you pay more then 50% of her living expense (clothing, food, housing) then she is yours to declare. If he does declare her, and he does not provide more then 50%, you can tell the IRS. You pretty much are obligated too. If they catch you both declaring her you, and you knew he was and didnt report it, you could be hit with fines of conspiracy to fraud the IRS. Or you could just call them and tell them hes illegally claiming her and they will audit him. That is always fun.

If you have sole custody and she lives with you then by law you can claim her. Just because he pays a measly $79 a month doesn’t mean anything. You go down and claim her and when the tax people send you a letter asking for proof of head of house hold, then you can show them that she lives with you over 90% of the time and YOU take care of her.

How did you let this go on for so long. He must think you are stupid. My child’s father pays over $400 per month and tried to claim her one year and I quickly shut that down.

$79 a month. Are you serious?

A simple call to the IRS will fix this. In order to claim a child, the child must reside with you for more than half the year…. if he is claiming her as a dependent, then he is in violation of tax laws and is looking at some pretty steep fines.

If you have full custody of the child, then by default, since the child spends >50% of their overnights with you, then you should have the right to claim them as a dependent.

In your court order there should be a clear ruling as to who gets to claim your child as a dependent. You need to review your court order papers and if there is not a decision, then go back to court and make sure there is.

Some court orders allow one parent or the other to claim the child every year, others will have one parent claim them one year, and the other claims them the next year and they switch off and on until the child is 18 or the order is changed. Just depends on what was decided by the judge.

You should not have to fight for this. The IRS has rules (which they sometimes don’t even follow) about these things. Usually whoever has custody of the child, the one who spends the most overnights and whoever supplies the child with more than 50% of their needs and care will be able to claim them if their is no court order governing it.

If he is the non-custodial parent, you need to take him back to court. If it is ordered that you get to claim your child, then the next time he does this, you may be able to file contempt of the court on him or just present the court order to the IRS to fix the problem.

Court orders will help you out soooo much.

Hope that helps!

File as head of household and be prepared to have all the paperwork to back it up. He cannot possibly claim your child as his dependent based on $79 a month. Keep all your utility bills, rent or mortgage payments, grocery receipts, any others for your child’s clothing, etc. Just because he files his return first does not mean his return is correct. What will happen is if you both file returns claiming her as your dependent (meaning you pay more than half of her support), you will receive a letter from the IRS eventually, as will your husband, telling you that the child has been claimed as a dependent by more than two people. You will both likely eventually be called in for an audit (and the IRS goes back 7 years), so keep your divorce decree and settlement agreement handy. Having the documentation will make your audit fairly easy. You may end up receiving refunds, while he will be hit with penalties and interest.
